The Painted Hills Engagement Session // Mitchell, OR // Amika + Briggs

I can still remember the first time I went to the Painted Hills (click here to see my favorite shoot there ever which got featured everywhere!). The drive was long (4.5 hours, to be exact), and my best friend and I had this as one of our first stops for our weekend “photo road trip adventure” to explore Central Oregon more! We arrived and INSTANTLY our breath was taken away. How the heck does a place like this exist on EARTH, let alone in the middle of Oregon?!?!? It’s also not too far away from the weirdest (in my opinion) place I’ve ever been in my life, the John Day Fossil Beds (click here to see the shoot I did here years ago!) with staggering mint green rock towers and white stripes.

One of the things I love so much about the Painted Hills is the variety of colors you can find, and how they are actually different based on the time of year! For example, the first half of this shoot was on the road before you even technically get into the “Painted Hills”. This side-pull off area is my favorite because you can walk around more freely and you aren’t restricted by boardwalks, and the color is just so rad!! When the rain starts to come, the top of these hills turn a bit more green and grow taller grass. We ended this shoot at the “overlook” along the short trail to the top, and I love how you can see the red, black, and white stripes throughout the hills from this backside angle!

Thanks for coming along for the adventure you two!
