Cortina d’Ampezzo and Passo Di Giau Couples Photos

Maddie and Jack’s first afternoon with me in the Dolomites was filled with wildflower meadows, jaw-dropping mountain views, and an epic adventure. From intimate balcony photos in Cortina d'Ampezzo to braving icy winds at Passo di Giau, their day-before session of casual couples photos was a true testament to the beauty of the Dolomites.

Maddie and Jack’s multi-day adventure through the Dolomites was full of unforgettable moments, starting with a relaxed session at their hotel, Hotel De Len, in the charming town of Cortina d’Ampezzo. The balcony offered a stunning view of the surrounding mountains, perfect for a quiet and intimate moment. They attempted to write their vows together (too many giggles though) as they drank wine and enjoyed the views. Cortina, often called the “Queen of the Dolomites,” is known for its luxurious alpine charm, making it the perfect base for elopement couples.

Where to Stay in Cortina d’Ampezzo:

Cortina d’Ampezzo is one of the most sought-after destinations in the Dolomites, offering a variety of lodging options. From luxurious hotels like Hotel De Len, which features panoramic views and modern alpine decor, to cozy chalets and family-run bed-and-breakfasts, there’s something for every couple looking for a comfortable and scenic place to stay.

Hotel De Len stands out for its contemporary design, top-tier amenities, and proximity to the heart of Cortina. Couples can enjoy the calm of the mountains while being just a short drive from the vibrant town center and plenty of hiking opportunities.

After our time in the hotel, we ventured out to a hidden wildflower meadow I had discovered, just a short distance from my own hotel. This meadow was a serene spot filled with vibrant blooms and provided a breathtaking view of the Dolomites. Maddie and Jack took their time here, enjoying the quiet beauty and capturing some incredible portraits amidst the wildflowers with rolling hills and the towering peaks in the background.

The Dolomites are renowned for their wildflower meadows, particularly in the warmer months (late spring to early summer). These meadows create a picturesque setting for couples wanting to experience the peacefulness of nature while saying their vows or taking portraits.

Passo di Giau: A Mountain Adventure with a View

After leaving the meadow, we embarked on a drive up the winding, narrow mountain roads leading to Passo di Giau, one of the most stunning mountain passes in the Dolomites. The drive was as thrilling as the destination, with its hairpin turns offering stunning vistas of the surrounding peaks. At the top, we were greeted with powerful winds and icy temperatures, but the views were worth every cold gust. Passo di Giau sits at 2,236 meters above sea level, offering panoramic views of the Nuvolau and Tofane mountain ranges. While the weather can be unpredictable, the views of the jagged peaks and expansive valleys below make it one of the most popular locations for couples seeking a dramatic and unforgettable setting for their elopement.

Hiking and Outdoor Adventures at Passo di Giau:

For those who want to add a hike to their adventure, Passo di Giau offers several incredible options, including:

  1. The Nuvolau Summit Hike – This challenging but rewarding hike takes you to the summit of Monte Nuvolau, offering a stunning 360-degree view of the surrounding Dolomites. The trail is a bit steep, but the summit is well worth the effort, especially for couples looking to add an adventurous element to their elopement.

  2. The Alta Via 1 – One of the most famous long-distance trails in the Dolomites, the Alta Via 1 passes through Passo di Giau. Hikers can enjoy multi-day treks through the breathtaking landscape, perfect for couples who want to explore deeper into the Dolomites.
