Kauai Elopement // Waimea Canyon, Shipwreck Beach HI
From the rainy state of Washington, to the warm & lush island of Kauai, these two made it forever as the sun set on Shipwreck Beach. To start their day, we headed up to Waimea Canyon and played around on top of the Grand Canyon of Hawaii, watching the helicopters dip in and out of the canyon below us with wind whipping through our hair. This was one of those places I will never forget - and I am so thankful we found this quiet spot all to ourselves, with no tourists hustling & bustling around. Even though the drive up is SO slow & windy, it was SO fun to see little sneak peaks of the canyon through the trees on the way up, and then this surprisingly crazy/cool RED waterfall just chilling on the side of the road!!!! Kauai is seriously a beauty.
After their portraits at the canyon we made our way down to Shipwreck Beach for their ceremony, private dinner, & a few more photos at sunset. We did their ceremony on the beach & then came to find out afterwards that there’s an insannnnnnnnely epic spot on top of the rocks where the waves, cliffs, and sunset meet oh-so-perfectly. So naturally we had to end our epic day here on these cliffs, watching the sun kiss down.
It’s days like this that fuel me… big time. I was so thrilled when they reached out to me to help them plan their elopement. At the time, they weren’t even sure WHERE they wanted to do it, they just knew they wanted it done!!! We got talking about Hawaii, and for awhile we thought our timing wouldn’t work out. Then, I planned a girls trip to Kauai with some of my friends, and the timing ended up being insanely perfect for all of us! We started planning away & I seriously felt like a little kid on Christmas morning ALL DAY shooting them!!! Best experience.
If having a big wedding doesn’t feel right for you guys, then don’t do it.
Go someplace you’ve dreamed of going, make a vacation/honeymoon out of it, and get married there just the two of you! Or bring a couple friends or family members along.
Do whatever feels best for YOU guys, & not for everyone else. And I love that Sierra & Evan did just that.
ENJOY!
