Oregon Wildflower Spring Couples Photos

There are some places that take your breath away the second you see them—and this hike in the Columbia River Gorge was definitely one of them. I’ve photographed all over Oregon, but somehow, I’d never made it to this particular trail during wildflower season. The views were absolutely unreal. Rolling hills covered in golden balsamroot, sweeping vistas of the river, and pockets of purple lupine tucked into the grass—it was like stepping into a painting.

I’d been wanting to explore a new wildflower location for a while, and this trail completely exceeded my expectations. Every bend in the path opened up to another stunning view. Even with a bit of wind (as is tradition in the Gorge), the whole evening felt soft, golden, and alive. I kept saying, “I can’t believe I’ve never been here before.” It’s definitely going on my shortlist of favorite springtime spots for sessions.

What made this shoot even more meaningful was getting to reconnect with this amazing couple. We actually went to college together, and I photographed their engagement and wedding years ago. It’s always such a gift to see people again after so long, especially in a completely new chapter of their lives. We fell right back into that comfortable rhythm, joking and catching up between shots like no time had passed.

Their energy was fun and joyful, which paired perfectly with the beauty of the landscape. We wandered through wildflower-covered hillsides, paused for quiet moments overlooking the river, and made the most of that dreamy evening light.

Wildflower season in the Columbia River Gorge usually peaks in April and May, depending on the trail and elevation. It’s always worth checking recent reports before heading out, but when the timing lines up, it’s magic. Whether you’re planning a couples session, engagement shoot, or just want to experience a slice of Oregon at its most vibrant, this area delivers every time.

This session reminded me why I love what I do: capturing honest connection in truly beautiful places. I already can’t wait to go back.
