Yosemite Valley Engagement Session
Some engagement sessions feel like just a photoshoot… happy people in a pretty place. But this day was more than that. Sydney and Freyttsie's engagement session felt like spending a joyful, casual, camp day alongside two people in a place that has shaped their story.
They first met while attending the University of San Francisco, where they were paired together as Resident Advisors in a freshman dorm. What started as a friendship eventually grew into a relationship, and over the years they've built a life filled with outdoor adventures, concerts, two beloved tuxedo cats, and countless weekends spent exploring California's wild places. Yosemite has always held a special place in their hearts, especially because they got engaged there, making it the perfect choice for their engagement session.
To make the most of Yosemite Valley's ever-changing light, we split their session into two parts: sunrise and sunset.
We started before dawn at Tunnel View, watching the first light spill across El Capitan, Half Dome, and Bridalveil Fall. From there, we made our way to El Capitan Meadow, where golden morning light filtered across the grass and granite walls towered overhead.
After a break in the middle of the day, we met back up for sunset. The evening felt wonderfully true to who they are. We found a quiet spot along the river to set up camp chairs, drink white wine, and hangout to take in the beauty. Then we moved to Hanging Bridge, and finished in Cook's Meadow as the valley glowed with soft spring light.
One of my favorite things about this session was how naturally it reflected their relationship. They originally considered skipping engagement photos altogether, but ultimately decided they wanted to document this chapter of life because they'll only live it once. Yosemite wasn't just a beautiful backdrop. It was part of their story.
And as the sun disappeared behind the granite walls and the meadow settled into evening, it felt impossible to imagine a more fitting place to celebrate the adventure they're building together.
