Tulum Cenote Adventure Couples Session

What is a Cenote?

Cenotes are natural sinkholes that are found throughout the Yucatan Peninsula, including in the Tulum area. They are formed when the roof of a cave collapses, creating a pool of water. The Yucatan Peninsula has a large number of cenotes because it is made up of porous limestone, which is prone to cave formation and collapse.

There are many cenotes in the Tulum area, and they are a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike. Some cenotes are open to the sky, while others are partially or fully underground. Many cenotes have crystal-clear water that is perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and diving. Some cenotes also have underground caves that can be explored with a guide.

Cenotes have a special cultural and spiritual significance to the Maya people, who believed that they were sacred places. They were often used for ceremonies and rituals, and many cenotes have ancient artifacts and carvings that have been preserved over time.

Best Cenotes in Tulum:

There are many cenotes in the Tulum area, and it can be difficult to choose which ones to visit. Some of the most popular cenotes in the Tulum area include:

  • Cenote Dos Ojos: This cenote is known for its clear blue water and is popular for snorkeling and diving.

  • Gran Cenote: This is my personal favorite out of all of them because the water is so turquoise and perfect for snorkeling! You’ll be surrounded by lots of fish, turtles, and you can even bring a flashlight and explore part of a cave.

  • Cenote Calavera: This cenote has a unique skull-shaped entrance and is popular for swimming and snorkeling.

  • Cenote Cristalino: This cenote has clear water and is popular for swimming and snorkeling. It is also close to the Tulum ruins.

  • Cenote Escondido: This cenote is partially underground and has crystal-clear water. It is popular for swimming and snorkeling.

What’s a day-after session?

A day after session is the perfect addition to your wedding package if you are getting married internationally, or even a stateside location, that you’re wanting to explore more and have photos of! These two decided to use their day after shoot to get some photos of them as a couple, but also some candid shots of their family and friends enjoying the cenote they rented out together!
