Epic Sunset Desert Elopement

Hire me to capture your marriage at Lake Powell & I’ll show you around the most epic desert landscape!

Whenever couples inquire about eloping in the desert but don’t have their heart set on a particular location, Lake Powell is my go-to suggestion for a NUMBER of reasons! Not only is Lake Powell home to the most epic desert landscapes (arches, caves, massive sandstone cliffs, beautiful rock texture, etc) but it also has the most beautiful blue water which can reach up to 90 degrees in the summer! Making it not only the most beautiful location, but also offering the most ACTIVITIES in the desert. Obviously you can hike & explore slot canyons, but the water itself opens up so many other activity options! You can rent a houseboat for the week, you can enjoy all sorts of water sports, cliff jumping, kayaking or paddle boarding, inner tubing, waterskiing, jet skiing, etc… the options are endless! And if you don’t have the time or financial ability to rent a houseboat, you can rent a powerboat to explore some of the most jaw-dropping canyons and beautiful sandy beaches.

For this elopement the couple was staying in Page, AZ so it made the most sense for us to stay on land. This hike is one of my favorites because it’s usually completely empty, and it has the most Mars-like rock texture and designs. It truly makes you feel like you’re on another planet! When the sun starts to touch on the horizon and the water and rocks begin to change colors, it’s a color palette you’ll never forget.

Desert Elopement Dresses

If you’re eloping in the desert and not sure what kind of dress would be best, here’s some tips!

  • Make sure the material is LIGHT and not heavy. It will no doubt be HOT and the last thing you want is to be super sweaty because of your dress having too many layers or the fabric being too heavy!

  • Pick something FLOWY! We will be hiking and rock scrambling so it’s important that your dress is easy to explore in! Plus, when the wind picks up flowy material makes for the coolest photos!!! It adds a touch of boho whimsy to your elopement photos. If your dress is too fitted, it will make hiking and climbing difficult.

  • Embrace the desert sand - don’t worry about if you create a little bit of a desert ombre of red, orange, or brown on the bottom of your dress :) you’re only going to wear it once, so live it up!

  • For shoes, I recommend sandals, comfortable walking or hiking boots, and being down to eventually go barefoot!
